Refund & Cancellation Policy
Last updated: July 2026
1. Overview
Matheia is an intermediary: tutoring is provided and sold by independent tutors and organizations, and each provider may set their own cancellation and refund terms, shown to you before you book. This policy explains how cancellations and refunds work across the platform's booking types and how refunds are processed. It does not limit your statutory rights as a consumer.
2. Single lessons and packages
For a single lesson or a package, the cancellation and rescheduling terms are set by your tutor or organization and shown at the time of booking. A booking you have not paid for by its deadline is released automatically, and the slot frees up. To cancel a paid lesson, reschedule, or request a refund, contact the tutor or organization that provided it in the first instance; where a refund is due, it is issued as described in section 5.
3. Recurring monthly plans
A recurring plan is billed one month at a time, before each month begins, and you can stop it at any time by not continuing to the next month. If a monthly payment is missed, you receive a short grace period (currently around three days) with a reminder; if it remains unpaid after that, the plan ends and its remaining sessions are cancelled. Months already paid for and delivered are not refunded; a month that was paid but not delivered is handled under the provider's terms and section 5.
4. Cohorts (group classes)
Reserving a cohort seat is free — you are only asked to pay if and when the class gathers enough students to form. If a cohort does not reach the minimum needed to run and is cancelled, or is cancelled at the provider's underfill decision, every student who paid is refunded automatically and in full.
Where a cohort is billed monthly, the first month is paid to join and each later month before it begins. If a monthly cohort payment is missed, you receive a short grace period with a reminder; if it remains unpaid, you are removed from the class's upcoming sessions while the class continues for others. Months you already paid for and attended are not refunded.
5. How refunds are made
Refunds are returned to your original payment method through Stripe, in the currency you paid, and typically appear within the timeframe your bank or card issuer applies. When a refund is issued for a payment that was invoiced, a corresponding credit note is issued. A full refund also returns the platform commission, so the provider is made whole. We do not charge a separate fee for issuing a refund.
6. Your right of withdrawal (consumers)
If you are a consumer in the EU, you may have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days. Some exceptions apply to tutoring: for a service fully performed with your prior express consent and your acknowledgement that you would lose the right of withdrawal once it is performed; and for services relating to a specific date or period. Because lessons are often scheduled or delivered promptly, these exceptions may apply — the relevant information is presented to you when you book. Nothing here limits rights you cannot waive under applicable law.
7. How to request a refund or raise an issue
First, contact the tutor or organization that provided the service — they set the terms and can resolve most requests directly. For problems with a payment, a platform error, or if you cannot reach the provider, contact help@matheia.com and we will help. Consumers in the EU may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Refund & Cancellation Policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above always reflects the current version, and material changes are notified to registered users.
